This year’s Kordon artist-in-residency is The Netherlands based Estonian artist MARIT MIHKLEPP. On 11th of August, the public event Biotoopia Walk takes place, which is part of the arts programme of interdisciplinary art and science forums Biotoopia. Marit will research the Kärdla meteorite crater during her residency, which forms a continuation to her artistic practice working with more-than-human bodies and imagination, as well as interest in listening to stones.

During Biotoopia Walk the artist will take the audience on a walk on the crater’s edge. The event continues with Kordon Artist Talk – a discussion between Marit and curator of Biotoopia PEETER LAURITS, moderated by Ann Mirjam Vaikla (co-founder of Kordon).MARIT MIHKLEPP is an Estonian artist living in The Netherlands. She works together with more-than-human bodies and imagination, attempting to encounter the almost imperceptible – too slow, too small, too far. Collaborative practices with microbial organisms, trees and human-made objects have grown into participatory experiences, video works, performative and written pieces. Her most recent interest is in listening to stones. She has studied textile design in the Estonian Academy of Arts and art science at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague.

PEETER LAURITS is curating since 2021 a series of interdisciplinary art and science forums Biotoopia. As an artist his main means of artistic expression are photography and digital manipulations. Previously he was engaged with a critical media approach when part of DeStudio collective, but soon turned to deep ecology, moved into woods and combined the neolithic methods with post-industrial ones, both in his art and lifestyle. Now the focus of his work is on posthumanist ethics. He has studied in Tartu and Leningrad State Universities, Estonian Humanitarian Institute and New York International Center of Photography.
